Hello !
I am going to Russia from Australia for 3 months - It’s impossible to get some rubles in Australia but I am transiting through China and hoping that they will have some cash there… If this fails, is there any ways for me to exchange euros or dollars on arrival in Moscow ?
I’m just nervous about my visa/Mastercard not working and not having any cash. I will of course open an account on arrival and transfer some money to myself but I still need some cash to get me through until I can open my account..

Thanks 🙂
Melyssa

@Melyssa
Hi: I’m going in April for three months also and I have the same problem since I’m coming from Portugal. I’ve contacted two banks in Russia and you can open the account with simple documents but it seems you have to carry the money yourself for now.
When on arrival may be needed to have your passport translated to russian. Be aware of that, it depends on the bank you choose. One of the banks will allow you to open the account online from your country but you can’t do deposits or anything untill you sign the documents, so…
Also I was told by e-mail that if I bring euros or dollars it better be in 100 bills. Don’t ask me why 😒.
Hope this in any way help.😊

Hello,

At the airport, you can change your euros or dollars. The rate is not the best, but it’s possible. If you can translate your passport in russian, then do it, it will be useful in any bank where you will want to open an account. Your Visa/Mastercard won’t work, for sure.
You can also go to some banks (Nikobank for example) to change your money in rubble, but they will ask you for a translation of your passport. They give banknotes that they have, it can be 1000, 2000 or 5000 (my experience)
