@Cal I have the Tinkoff app on my phone now but it wouldnt take my USA or UK numbers to even make an appointment. I’ll just wait for my arrival to Kaliningrad and get a Russian number. Hopefully that will do the trick.

Gamechanger if confirmed. TBank and Globus are now issuing debit cards on arrival at LED airport in St Petersburg WITHOUT a Russian phone number. I hope to confirm this next week. I would expect this to expand to Moscow airports later as well. Why not?

@gavinmac Today I stopped in to LED and found the T-Bank booth. The first thing they did was ask for my phone number to send a SMS. Didn’t need to be a Russian number. Unfortunately for whatever reason both my US and UK SIMs are not receiving messages from them. This was the case when I tried to create an account online previously. Both numbers are functional in Russia otherwise. So with that said; if you have a international phone that gets SMS messages from Russian numbers you should be fine. Oh, and the T-Bank guy did offer “my friend can register under his name for a Russian SIM card for you for 3000 RUB” but I declined.
@KO11 Thanks. I’m a little worried about that because I have a Google voice number which I guess is considered a “VOIP number” and American banks won’t send me text messages. Is that why your US number didn’t work and was there a workaround so you could get the bank card?
@gavinmac No, mine are major provider SIMs just seems to be a T-Bank issue. Not sure though. They both roam fine and voice calling and data work. No work-around for now. I’m doing fine with cash only so no real need.
On my next visit, after summer, I’ll consider going through the process and doing it all right.
