Hi there we are travelling the first time tomorrow and i was wondering of there are any updates regarding VPNs? Are the ones on the website here still the best? Just worried as I read a couple of news articles that there is heavy blockage last few weeks. Are emails like yahoo mail working OK? Thanks heaps

Most VPNs don’t work anymore, they are constantly blocking them. “f3 vpn” still works but has only 5GB free data. Everything works with VPN provided VPN connects in the first place.

It is a pain in the \*\*\*. They block a lot of websites. I use Gmail, which works fine in Russia if you have a connection. But I also use Protonmail and I was not aware that they block Proton. But they do - because of the Proton VPN. If you ask around Russia, a local can tell you of a VPN that might work. But I understand how much the restrictions are a pain now, having experienced it myself. Being used to free flowing internet and then having things not work, websites blocked, etc., it really is a let down.

When I visited st Petersburg this summer I found out that whole ip address ranges are blocked for know vpns and also port 443 for whole address blocks.
I could not use my vless xray vps at hertzner om port 443. I could use a ssh connection with a socks5 proxy port connect the same vps
at hertner (de). Mail (imaps) and smtp worked for gmail and some other european mailserver.
Sorry for the technical talk. With this setup I could by train tickets via pass.rw.by, and buy
my ecolines bus ticket and book plan tickets via aviasales with my european visa and mastercard. But just count on it that this setup
will not work and bring loads of cash
