Prepaid SIM cards for tourists (passing thru Belarus)

Has anyone as a foriegn tourist purchased a prepaid SIM card in Belarus? And did it allow Roaming in Russia?

I plan on buying an MTS Prepaid SIM card in Belarus. I think tourists can still buy them there. And then i will see if i can add a russia roaming plan to it.

Update, i was able to buy a pre paid SIM in Belarus. I will find out in a few days if it roams.

Last time i bought prepaid SIM in Belarus with MTS two years ago, I was told, it was on the contract, and i could verify by use of course, that the ones sold to non-resident foreigners:

  • work only in Belarus, dead outside
  • don’t expire

Expiration i haven’t checked as i didn’t return since. Mute outside Belarus yes, i tried it in Russia, no roaming. Interesting to know if it has changed.

Update. My Belorus MTS prepaid SIM stopped working when i entered Russia.
