Tallin - St Petersburg vs. Kaliningrad

Hello,
I am planning a travel for New Year from France to Russia with a friend. We are thinking of travelling whether through Kaliningrad or through Tallin, to go to St Petersburg.

For Kaliningrad the borders Poland-Kaliningrad seem okay. But for Tallin-St Petersburg I was less sure.
Does someone has got information on the border situation in Tallin now? Can we go through it, is there any limitations, things to know about ?
I downloaded the guide but the situation was latest updated in March, so I wondered if things had changed.

Otherwise if you have any recommendations on the route to choose in-between the two solutions, I am all ears (/eyes to read^^).

Many thanks.

I took the Luxexpress bus across the Estonia border 8 months ago. Their site has some info on the current state of the border crossing.
