How can I get my Visa registered upon arrival in Moscow? Normally, the hotel will do this for you, but I am staying at a “rented” apartment that I booked through Zenhotels.
Its EXTREMELY frustrating figuring this out, everything I find online says that the landlord is legally required to do it. But the owners/company tell me that they will not take care of this.
And it seems impossible to find out how to do it yourself, there are a couple of sources that all mention something different, like the postal office, police building, and UVIR office. All of them are extremely vague in the process of how to do it.
I can’t, for the life of me, find out how I have to register my Visa. Is there any online service that I can use to do it for me? Or what building should I visit in Moscow? Police department, Postal office?
(Also a side question which might disregard all of this, i see it is only required for a stay at 1 place for more than 7 working days, since i will arrive Dec 23 and leave Jan 2nd, this will technically mean i will stay JUST within 7 WORKING days, do i still need to register?)
Wasn’t your visa registered when you cleared customs? I stayed at a rented apartment and they gave me nothing. It didnt cause a problem. The hotels always give me something
I recommend this, I have done this twice this year, call the cheapest hostels you can find, if you let them know beforehand that you don’t intend to stay there and are just looking for registration, some will say no and some will say yes. In May I managed to find two that were willing to register me (in about 45 minutes of my girlfriend calling for me), even though I wouldn’t physically be there after initially going and paying, receiving registration form. The others obviously didn’t like the idea. It will just take a bit of research and time to find a place. Call and say you are looking for x amount of days, “do you register foreigners?” “I am from x Country”, “If I’m not there the entire stay is that okay? I just want to be honest, I need registration”
You’ll find that nearly no land lords will register you, its just a fact, and you need to be aware of it. Trust me and look for a hostel that’s cheap, pay the rubles for however much for however many days and have peace of mind. I think for 26 days this last time I paid about 19,000 rubles for my hostel.
I’m happy to answer any questions you have, good luck
@Timoti No thats probably the migration card you got, visa registration has to be done by the hotel/person that owns the place youre gonna be sleeping at.
@simonwolf Yes i saw this method somewhere else, and if i have no choice i will use it. But as mentioned in the last paragraph (and some further checking after posting this thread) i dont think i need to register, as technically i will only stay 7 working days. ( 11, -2 weekend days, and January 1st/2nd are public holidays.)

it feels like people are re-inventing the wheel and the whole internet is useless.
It is not “visa registration” actually, just person registration. A valid visa when needed just tells that the foreigner is legit. Some nationalities don’t need a visa, but these people also need to be registered. The key document is the migration card given at the border. Visa is also used besides, for the nationalities that must have one, otherwise not of course.
not only most renters don’t want to bother with registration of a foreign guest, but few “mini-hotels” also don’t do it, nor some kind of hostels that don’t have the juridical status of hotel.
what people have done since ever is get a room at a hotel for a night, even if the stay is for a month. So you are recorded in the system.
years ago, before 2015 or 2010, the grace period was not 7 working days, but 3, and earlier, the hotel had to put a stamp on the back of the migration card, and random police checks, controls by boarding gates at airport, would have a look at these stamps and ask questions if they were gaps in stamps dates.
so these days the system is very lax. Get a room at an hotel in the first 10 days (7 working days) and done with it.
